7 Helpful Hints for Family Storytelling
7 Helpful Hints for Family Storytelling

  1. Decide if you will make this audio, video, or written.
  2. Choose if your story will be told in 1st person, 2nd person, or 3rd person.
  3. Write or record authentically. Be who you are. Share the story as if you are telling your very best friend about the event.
  4. Fill in the details. Assume the listener/viewer/reader knows nothing of which you speak. They have no background on the subject. Inform them so they can follow along.
  5. Be descriptive, yet factual. Clarify when you are adding in your opinion or assumptions. Both of which are fine.
  6. Don't drag on. Keep it short enough so as not to lose interest, yet long enough to serve its purpose.
  7. Be on point. Start and end with your main point. Have a purpose for sharing the story.
