7 Helpful Hints for Family Storytelling |
- Decide if you will make this audio, video, or written.
- Choose if your story will be told in 1st person, 2nd person, or 3rd person.
- Write or record authentically. Be who you are. Share the story as if you are telling your very best friend about the event.
- Fill in the details. Assume the listener/viewer/reader knows nothing of which you speak. They have no background on the subject. Inform them so they can follow along.
- Be descriptive, yet factual. Clarify when you are adding in your opinion or assumptions. Both of which are fine.
- Don't drag on. Keep it short enough so as not to lose interest, yet long enough to serve its purpose.
- Be on point. Start and end with your main point. Have a purpose for sharing the story.
